Game design of the identity and the UI of the video game World Basketball Manager 2 by Icehole games, a classic manager game with many options and settings. At the beginning, the gamer takes over a team and becomes the manager. He can then train his team (individually or give directions to the whole team), sign new players, set up his budget, create his game play strategy and so on. And that’s just before the actual game play. When we reach the game screen that has a classic commentary text play, we can see the real game engine. Then the coach has a lot of options for defense and offense tactics, calling time-outs and of course checking out all the game stats that change play by play.
Our work was focused on the user interface and architecture of the game. Typography was a real problem as the title has 12 different languages and more than 20.000 players and 1.200 teams so we went with the choice of Open Sans Condensed Bold. We designed all the elements (in 3 different resolutions, based on 1366x768px) the illustrations and all the symbols for the personal and team training. The main design lasted 4 months and the development more than a year. This is the second version of the game title, that was first released on 2006 and had more than 10.000 downloads. This version was released on 27/12/2016, and it’s available για windows και mac and via steam. Take a good look at this video presentation.
